I was ecstatic when I ran across an interview with System Of A Down’s Serj Tankian in the Los Angeles Times! It was about his upcoming album called “Imperfect Harmonies.”
Now, listening to his latest album “Elect The Dead,” I’m wondering what the next one will be like.
Serj Tankian is really one of the most remarkable and extravagant figures on the modern rock and metal scene, and we love him not only for his great dynamic music and his unique vocals. He is also one of those artists who show us the rotten side of our world and the defects of our society, and make us face the problems we now have. Serj does it in a jokingly and sarcastic manner. There is a lot of hidden content in his seemingly light-hearted songs.
The upcoming album is going have those characteristics, too.
According to Serj, there will still be a lot of criticism towards society, politics, wars and human relations. But it will also have a different side–more personal, thoughtful and even romantic. That’s the way Serj is–he expresses everything he feels in his music. He will sing out his opinion about the global world processes, and at the same time about his personal emotional experience and feelings.
You can never get tired of Serj, because he is full of surprises. I guess that’s why he is one of today’s most successful musicians. He never sticks with one subject, as his ideas are diverse and versatile.
So are his musical decisions.
As he said in his interview with Los Angeles Times, “Imperfect Harmonies” will contain completely different music, which he has never created before. The whole album will be a combination of symphonic and electronic music, combined with acoustic elements. So, I guess we are going to experience something absolutely new on this album.
I don’t know why Serj decided to call his album “Imperfect Harmonies.” As for me, everything about this album, which is scheduled for release in late summer, seems to be quite perfect.
