Lena’s Magical Cassette Player

Lenas Magical Cassette PlayerIn the last several days Europe was thundering with the most important music event on the big continent — Eurovision. And after 28 years Germany won and gained the honor to host the Eurovision 2011 song contest… all that thanks to a cute 19-year-old school girl named Lena Meyer-Landrut, who nobody knew a couple of months ago…

Lena first appeared on television alongside thousands of others pursuing the aim of becoming a Eurovision star during a German television show “Unser Star fur Oslo”(“Our Star for Oslo”), where she performed a song by British singer Adele. Her sincere manner and her cute voice brought her to the finals and consequently to the stage of the 2010 Eurovision contest itself. So Lena put on a short black dress, she even did her hair (as she sings the winning song) and brought the Eurovision prize to Germany, just like that.

During these four months of fame Lena has even managed to release an album, and who could even imagine it would hit the top charts of Germany and moreover, enter the top ten among the European albums on Billboard music charts!

Nobody knows how Eurovision 2010 winner Lena will handle her future career: unfortunately these rapid ascents to success are sometimes destined to be forgotten as quickly. But, at least now, we can enjoy this little miracle through her album.

Lena’s album “My Cassette Player” was released on May 21. It consists of 15 tracks, both written especially for Lena or covered by her. Among them are the three candidate songs for Eurovision — “Satellite,” “Love Me” and “Bee,” and two covers from Adele and Jason Mraz. The mood of the album is totally optimistic, either due to her unique and cheerful voice or because of the songs themselves, but it’s definitely a mood-booster in any situation. It follows an aim, totally different from the trendy disco-house-trance music and is definitely light-hearted and cute. I have to confess — it reminds me of the good ol’ songs by The Beatles like “Good Day Sunshine.”  You know what I mean?

Anyway, maybe this album is not the deepest and most sophisticated music ever, but whatever, it’s worth checking out and having fun with it. Go Lena!
