There is no better occasion for European countries to come together and share their traditions than the Eurovision Song Contest.
For about five decades the Eurovision Song Contest has taken us from one European country to another revealing national identities within a span of a couple of hours while uniting people around one theme.
The Eurovision Song Contest is one of the most prestigious and eminent song contests around the world.
Eurovision has an interesting past. Based in Switzerland, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) first came along with the idea of founding a song contest that would embrace several European countries within the limits of one program. The Eurovision Song Contest was inaugurated in 1956 and since then it has been held annually, transmitted to all the participating countries.
In 2003 the Junior Eurovision took place strengthening the popularity of Eurovision, a contest which combines competition and collaboration.
Country members of the Council of Europe, being included in the EBU, take part in the contest along with their representatives. Contest viewers are allowed to vote for any country apart from their own.
For Eurovision 2009, Dima Bilan’s “Believe” brings the 54th Eurovision contest to Moscow. The Olympic Indoor Arena, Olimpiysky, will host Eurovision this year providing room for about 16,000 people. John Casey, a famous designer, is going to be in charge of stage decoration.
Join the celebration, join the world.
