Sauti Za Busara: East African Music FestivalDid you know about the East African Sauti za Busara music festival? This is an international festival taking place in Zanzibar every year.

Sauti za Busara when translated into English means “Sounds of Wisdom.” The festival is set for February 11-16, 2010. It will have 400 brilliant artists participating.

According the director of the festival, Yusuf Mahmoud, the upcoming 2010 festival will comprise classic and modern music elements. Both famous and new singers are invited to make the festival even brighter and richer thus putting the stress on the cultural diversity of East African music.

The 11th of February will be dedicated to a parade which will mark the opening of the festival. The parade will be full of dancers, umbrella women, drummers and acrobats. It moves from Forodhani to Old Fort, the main venue of the city. On the last festival day, the 16th of February, people leave the town and move to Zanzibar’s beaches to dance till morning.

About 10 groups of artists perform every day. The festival starts in the afternoon and lasts till midnight. During this national festival you can buy African clothing, handicrafts and food.

Ticket prices vary for residents and tourists. If you are not fond of standing during the festivals there are VIP tickets for those who prefer seating.
