Each soul has its music. Everyone has his own preferences and taste while choosing what music to listen to.
Blues, folk, heavy metal, country, folk, hip hop, rock, reggae and jazz. Genres vary from one person to other, but jazz is what stops me. This divine music influenced by African-American traditions originated in America.
At first it was mainly played in small clubs and was not considered to be a separate music genre, just improvised versions of certain composition. Nowadays jazz even has its own subgenres and has spread all over the world. So you may listen to it not only in live settings but on radio, TV and internet.
As a real jazz fan I do follow all the news on mass media but what I like more is attending Jazz festivals all over the world. Among these festivals the most famous ones are those in Montreal, New Orleans, Monterey, Copenhagen, Paris, New York City and for best latin jazz, Havana.
However, this summer my destination was Montreux, Switzerland. The annual festival held there since 1967 is on the top 10 most famous jazz festivals in the world. This 16-day instrumental jazz music affair attracts nearly 220,000 visitors each year. Though mainly considered a jazz festival, the Montreux Jazz Festival includes many music styles. And I was lucky enough to see not only Status Quo, John Fogerty and Hermann Dune but also Madeleine Peyroux and many other famous musicians.
You may take part in the 44th Montreux Jazz Festival or choose your favorite city’s festival. But whatever your choice I am sure you’ll enjoy it!
