A good song may touch your soul, if the music and lyrics are professionally matched. There are some general songwriting tips you should consider for a successful and really heart touching song.
The first important decision you should make is choosing to write the lyrics or the music first. Most composers say it’s mainly the music written first but you may feel like doing the opposite. This is an individual decision and it may vary from songwriter to songwriter.
If you already have the music than start thinking over your song topic or main idea. You don’t need to write the whole text at once. First of all write a first draft of your lyrics and then write the chorus. The chorus of the song is the connection between the main parts and as it is repeated several times. It should be easy to remember for your listeners. After you have the chorus down, start editing the lyrics and match them to the melody.
Another important topic is the song title. Try to make it appealing, but short and memorable at first glance. Use any kind of pun for a winning title.
Taking this advice and that of others when learning how to write a song. Be creative, and start writing whatever your heart dictates. Put all your emotions into every song.
